Lexington, VA's The Georges Acquires Neighboring Building, Will Expand

The Georges, a boutique hotel in Lexington, Virginia, has acquired the neighboring Sheridan Livery Building, currently the home of the Tonic Restaurant and Inn. This addition will expand The Georges from 21 guestrooms to 33 and provide increased banquet and event space.

Dating to 1887, the historic Sheridan Livery Building originally served as a horse stable and stagecoach depot and has an important place in Main Street Lexington’s history. Ann Parker Gottwald, owner of The Georges, said, “We are grateful to the building’s former owners, the Benincasa family, for their stewardship of the Sheridan Livery Building. We will begin thoughtful and loving renovations right away, and we plan to open the new guestrooms in the fall.”

The initial renovation phase will focus on the 12 guestrooms, while future renovation phases will address the building’s restaurant and event spaces.

Operating in four historic buildings on Main Street in Lexington, Virginia, The Georges opened in 2014. The properties were carefully restored, blending vintage chic and homely comfort. Each of the Inn’s 21 guestrooms have hand-picked furniture accented with paintings by Virginia artists.

The Georges offers two Main Street restaurants and an event space. Haywood’s Piano Bar and Grill offers a casual lively experience with regionally sourced cuisine and nightly music, including live jazz on the weekends. For upscale pub fare, TAPS is The Georges’ main bar featuring craft beer, creative cocktails, salads and sandwiches. The Georges’ event venue, The Patton Room, is ideal for accommodating intimate gatherings or large groups. The historic inn is located three hours southwest of Washington, D.C., two hours from Richmond, Virginia, and an hour from both Charlottesville and Roanoke, Virginia.
