Last week's debut of the Viceroy Los Cabos was just the latest luxury hotel opening in a destination that continues to see an influx of high-end resorts.
To make sure you're up to speed, Travel Agent breaks down everything you need to know about Los Cabos' latest luxury hotel, as well as other high-end happenings from the island, such as Montage Los Cabos' recent inclusion in Journese' luxury resort portfolio.
Los Cabos Luxury Recap
Last week, the Viceroy Hotel Group debuted its 15th property worldwide with the opening of Viceroy Los Cabos. The hotel is located in the heart of San Jose del Cabo on the coast of Baja California.
Montage Los Cabos opened this spring in The Twin Dolphin community in Santa Maria Bay (in Los Cabos’ Golden Corridor). Guests can expect a signature Spa Montage, multiple dining venues (with a focus on the region’s seafood), two pools, a children’s program and more. Guests also have access to the nearby Fred Couples Signature Golf Course. There are 122 earth-toned rooms, suites and casas – all of which are at least 895 square feet and offer at least partial ocean views.
Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort is also expected to open this June. Each of the 128 guest rooms has contemporary decor and a control panel, allowing guests to make dining or spa reservations. Also, Artisans (butlers) are available to book excursions.
Finally, Aman recently announced a brand new resort—its very first in Mexico. Slated to open in 2020, Amanvari—which takes its name from the Sanskrit-derived words for “peace” and “water”—will be situated on the East Cape of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula.
Inside the New Viceroy
Originally conceptualized by Mexico-based architect, Miguel Angel Aragones, and formerly known as the Hotel Mar Adentro, the 194-room hotel became a Viceroy property after undergoing renovations and enhancements.
Brand new to the resort are a beachfront pool and bar, a refreshed lobby and arrival experience, new dining venues and a fitness center curated by Los Angeles-based celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak.
Upon arrival through a sculpted iron portal and artisan wooden door, guests are greeted by the sound of water, the conceptual central element at the resort. Viceroy Los Cabos’ new lobby interiors have gone from stark white to a warm color palette of blue and natural sand tones.
Among the other renovations, Viceroy Los Cabos also reveals five dining venues, each providing a fresh and local experience reflective of the history and culture of Baja.
With an international ceviche menu and innovative handcrafted cocktails, the Nido restaurant draws inspiration from Spain, Mexico and Peru. Located in the main building of the resort, Casero Restaurant and Otro Bar feature homestyle Mexican cuisine and a Tequila Library stocked with house infusions such as chile and marigold, as well as craft coffee and specialty Mexican hot chocolate.
Viceroy Los Cabos’ beachside eatery Nidito overlooks the brand new infinity beach pool and ocean, while offering bite-sized snacks including an array of tacos, fruit cups, and Instagram-worthy cocktails with festive garnishes. Opening later this year is a rooftop bar with ocean views.
The resort also offers experiential activities guests, including surf lessons with a local pro, an exclusive fishing with the chef experience, scuba diving with underwater photography, fluorescent night dives and custom tequila making classes.
Additionally, Viceroy Los Cabos debuted its "A Canvas for Discovery" artist series, kicking off with Los Angeles-based contemporary artist Spencer Mar Guilburt.
