Mexico’s First Nickelodeon Resort Gets New Opening Date

The first Nickelodeon resort in Mexico has a new opening date. Karisma Hotels & Resorts and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) have announced that the new Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya, which was originally scheduled to open this past December, will now open in spring/summer 2019.

The Nickelodeon Riviera Maya, the first property for the new hotel brand in Mexico, was originally scheduled to open in December 2017. Travel Agent learned last summer that the opening had been delayed, although at the time now new opening date had yet been set. The new resort will mark the second property for the brand, after the Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana, which opened in the summer of 2016.

Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya will have 276 oceanfront swim-up Pad Suites and Flat Suites, as well as four Nickelodeon-themed Penthouses on the top floor of two six-story buildings. The Penthouses will be designed around popular Nickelodeon characters, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and SpongeBob SquarePants. All four Penthouses will have infinity pool swim-up access and oceanfront views of the property’s white sand beach along the Caribbean Sea

The property will be centered around the Aqua Nick are, which will have nearly 500,000 square feet of activities including a lazy river, waterslides, a splash park, an interactive water playground for toddlers, and mini relaxation pools. There will also be on-site lockers, bathrooms, showers and towel service, as well as a number of culinary options.

At Nickelodeon Place, guests will be able to meet and mingle with Nickelodeon characters, such as Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Within Nickelodeon Place is Club Nick, a hangout for kids; Plaza Orange, for music, games and tropical fun; and Mainstage, a theater for hosting an array of entertainment experiences. Other notable resort amenities include a fitness center and spas, which will offer kids’ treatments, individual suites, couple’s suites, a bridal suite, and outdoor treatment areas.

The property will also offer Karisma’s Gourmet Inclusive Experience, with six restaurants with options ranging from the seafront Yacht Club to a Mexican cantina at Espadin. The Bikini Bottom gourmet corner will serve fast-casual midday meals or snacks. Much of the resort’s organic produce will be sourced directly from Karisma’s 76,000-square-foot Greenhouse located next door at El Dorado Royale Riviera Maya, a Spa Resort by Karisma.

There will also be four bars on property, including The Bar, Bikini Bottom Bar, and two swim-up bars. The Lobby Lounge will be a family-centric hub with music, entertainment, and broadcasts of live sporting events.

The design of the resort is being billed as casual luxury, with an open layout, custom artwork, and upscale contemporary décor with a whimsical bent. The resort’s lobby, culinary venues, and the two six-story buildings are set between an oasis of palm trees and an indigenous mangrove environment.
