NH Collection Prague Carlo IV Sporting a New Look

The NH Collection Prague Carlo IV, a five-star property housed in a heritage-protected neo-Renaissance palace, has reopened following an extensive transformation. The 152-key property was formerly a bank and was converted into a luxury hotel in 2003.

The lobby pays homage to the former bank’s terminal hall, with refurbished wooden frames on the original bank teller’s windows. The dining venues have also been revamped, including a new lobby bar that has been added to the hall. The hotel’s multifunctional restaurant, aptly named “1890” after the year in which the neo-Renaissance palace opened as the First Mortgage Bank in former Bohemia, is located just behind the lobby hall. The new menu will focus on tasting plates, whereas the 1890 lobby bar menu will offer sharing platters and a new twist on Czech staples.

The hotel’s wellness and spa facilities sport new tiling in the 66-foot-long heated pool and two whirlpools. Later in the year, the sauna and steam room will receive an upgrade during the second phase of the renovation.

The guestrooms in the historical wing have received a design update while retaining their former attributes such as high ceilings, soft wooden floors and marble bathrooms. The guestrooms in the modern wing sport casual elegance along with redesigned bathrooms.

“The hotel’s transformation was based on our long-term research into new travel trends introducing co-working spaces, gastronomical open spaces with intimate corners and easy access to modern conveniences, such as easy charging in public spaces and guest rooms”, said Sander Creemers, the regional director of operations for NH Hotel Group (Central Europe and the Nordics).

Maarten Markus, managing director Northern Europe at NH Hotel Group, said this project would substantially upgrade the guest experience. Similar renovation projects have been planned in Central and Eastern Europe, he added.
