Grupo Posadas and Live Aqua to Open New Hotel in San Miguel de Allende

Officials with Grupo Posadas and Live Aqua Urban Resort San Miguel de Allende recently shared with Travel Agent a sneak peek at the new, urban lifestyle resort, which is set to open in the UNESCO World Heritage Site November 1. With 153 guest rooms, restaurants, a full-service spa and a variety of event spaces, the new resort will be the largest guest room property in the city.

The fifth property for the Live Aqua urban lifestyle brand, the new resort aims to bring a more modern vibe to the destination, which is primarily known for its colonial heritage, as well as winning Travel + Leisure’s best city in the world two years in a row. In addition to its signature Zibu restaurant, helmed by famous Mexican chef Eduardo Palazuelos, the resort will also be home to the pan-Asian Spice Market, which officials say they hope will attract a local crowd in a city with few non-Mexican restaurants. As San Miguel de Allende also has a large expatriate community – the second-biggest North American population in Mexico – officials also hope that the property’s restaurants will draw expats, as well.

The resort’s guestrooms will be built around the Live Aqua brand’s signature glass-enclosed bathrooms, which allow guests to look out over the room and the view out the windows when alone, or to draw drapes for privacy. The bathrooms will aim to reflect the city’s colonial heritage, with old-style bathtubs and tile.

Other on-property amenities will include a pool and Jacuzzi, as well as a gym and full-service beauty salon. For weddings and other events, a 1,000-foot ballroom will be able to be divided into five separate sections. There will also be an outdoor terrace, as well as an on-site wedding coordinator. The spa will have 10 massage rooms, a private pool a sauna and a steam room.
