The Royal Sonesta Boston has completed a comprehensive property transformation, the AAA Four Diamond hotel announced, capping a renovation that refreshed guest rooms and suites in its East Tower, upgraded the fitness center and poolscape, and introduced a new dining destination, Scull & Keel.
The hotel, situated along the Charles River where Cambridge meets Boston, offers 400 guestrooms and suites with views of the Boston skyline and Charles River. Amenities include complimentary WiFi, luxurious bedding, diverse dining options, a fitness center, and a signature indoor saltwater pool and seasonal sundeck. The property sits minutes from TD Garden, MIT, Kendall Square, the Museum of Science, and the New England Aquarium.
"We are thrilled to unveil this transformative new chapter for The Royal Sonesta Boston," said Mark Jeffery, General Manager of The Royal Sonesta Boston. "Every aspect of this renovation was guided by our commitment to creating exceptional experiences for today's travelers. As one of the region's most iconic waterfront hotels, we look forward to welcoming guests to discover our refreshed spaces and experience a new standard of hospitality along the Charles River."
The East Tower underwent a complete transformation, introducing a design concept inspired by the culture and classic sophistication of the city. The accommodations feature modern hues, tailored detailing, light wood tones, matte finishes, clean lines, and layered textures. Artwork throughout the rooms draws on the spirit of Cambridge, with interpretations of the Charles River, architectural details, and images of the area's legacy of scientific advancement creating a visual narrative.
On the wellness side, the hotel's 30-by-45-foot indoor saltwater pool, one of the largest hotel pools in the Boston and Cambridge area, features a glass-enclosed roof and adjacent seasonal terrace. The 24-hour fitness center has been refreshed with modern cardio and strength-training equipment, including a Peloton bike, alongside complete locker room facilities.
Anchoring the dining upgrades is Scull & Keel, a new restaurant perched along the riverfront and serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. The upscale-casual concept offers a contemporary interpretation of New England seafood, with a menu focused on fresh, locally sourced seafood and seasonal ingredients. Signature dishes include hot and cold seafood towers, tuna tartare nachos, day boat scallops, and a fried hake sandwich battered in Scull Run, the hotel's signature IPA created in partnership with Lamplighter Brewing Co. The cocktail list features the Stormflower, a passionfruit tequila drink; the Lavender Coastline, a lavender-infused vodka cocktail; and the Copper Current, a warming blend of whisky, apple spice, and ginger.
Scull & Keel joins a culinary portfolio that also includes Monteverdi, serving handcrafted Italian cuisine, and Studio Café, offering Starbucks coffee and baked goods made fresh daily onsite.
