What’s New at Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas

Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas Resort Golf & Spa is one of the newest resorts from Solmar Hotels & Resorts. Ricardo Orozco, VP of Solmar Hotels & Resorts, recently stopped by our New York offices to share the latest on the property and what’s new for travel agents.

“We’re located on the Pacific side, about 20 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas and 25 minutes from the airport,” Orozco says of the new property’s location, which has its own private road from the main road to the exclusive Rancho San Lucas development.

Currently, the property has approximately 89 suites open, and Solmar is working to complete another 41 by September, says Orozco. The company is also breaking ground on 52 more units, to bring the resort to a total of 182 units by 2020.

Also on property is an oceanwater lagoon and two restaurants. The resort’s fine dining restaurant is run by the former executive chef of the Grand Solmar Land’s End, and it serves a menu of Baja cuisine emphasizing farm-to-table ingredients and upscale Mexican recipes. The other, Aqua, is an outdoor sea grill. The resort is also breaking ground on a new sports bar that will have space for between 200 and 250 people, as well as courts for pickleball – a new sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis, which Orozco says is growing in popularity, particularly in California and Florida.

Nearby, guests can check out a mountain bike trail with a daily mountain bike tour from the hotel.

“It’s about three or three and a half miles,” says Orozco. “People really enjoy it – you get to see a lot of local animals and trees.”

Solmar offers agents commission on a sliding scale at all of its properties: 10 percent for booking 1 – 29 room nights, 15 percent for booking 30 – 59 room nights and 18 percent for booking 60 – 90+ room nights. Agents can expect to receive payment from a week to a maximum of a month after processing, which begins after guests have checked out.
