Who’s Where in Travel: New at ALG, Club Med

It’s been another busy week for executive appointments in the travel industry, particularly in the hotel and all-inclusive space. 

This week Apple Leisure Group named Alejandro Reynal its new CEO, taking over for Alex Zozaya. Reynal has served as CEO of Atento, a global provider of customer relationship management and business process outsourcing services, where he led the company to an initial public offering in 2014. As part of the transition, Zozaya will serve in a full-time capacity as executive chairman and will lead the board of directors.

Club Med appointed Carolyne Doyon to the role of president and chief executive officer for the company’s North American and Caribbean business division. Doyon is succeeding Xavier Mufraggi, who held the position of CEO for North America and the Caribbean for more than 10 years. Mufraggi has now been promoted to the new CEO for the Europe, Africa and Middle East division. Doyon joined Club Med in 2008 as a sales director and was promoted to vice president of sales, transportation and marketing within the same year. 

Hilton named Feisal Jaffer global head of LXR Hotels & Resorts, the company’s newest luxury collection brand, which launched in 2018. Jaffer joins Hilton from Capella Hotel Group, where he most recently served as vice president, business development. 

Swire Hotels appointed Simon McHendry as the general manager of The Temple House in Chengdu

In agency organization news, Ensemble Travel Group announced that Libbie Rice has decided to leave the company, with her last day on September 10. Rice has been with Ensemble since January 2011, serving as co-president until June 2019, when she became president. 

In tour operator news, Manfredi Lefebvre became co-chairman and Geoffrey Kent founder and co-chairman of Abercrombie & Kent following the completion of an investment in the Abercrombie & Kent Group by Heritage Group. Additionally, Amerigo Perasso, a business lawyer who spent 14 years with Silversea, was named the new CEO of Abercrombie & Kent Group.

Finally, Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection promoted Kristian Anderson to executive vice president, global sales. In his expanded role, Anderson will assume responsibility for driving revenue performance in support of all global travel partners for both Uniworld and U River Cruises. Anderson joined the company in 2016 as senior vice president of sales and reports directly to CEO Ellen Bettridge.
