Above and Beyond Alaska Launches Multi-Sport Day Trip

This summer, Juneau-based guiding company Above and Beyond Alaska (ABAK) is adding a new multi-sport tour to its lineup. The "Fly-In Norris Glacier Hike & Packraft" tour allows travelers to experience three quintessential Alaska adventures—flightseeing, glacier hiking and packrafting—all in one day.

ABAK has been operating Juneau-based glacier tours for more than 20 years and says it has long sought to incorporate a multi-sport experience into its offerings. Alaska Seaplanes welcomed ABAK into its company family in 2022, making transportation to new, remote locations available and this experience a reality. Now, ABAK is the first company in Juneau to offer this type of multi-sport day adventure to both independent travelers and cruise passengers.

The five-hour "Fly-In Norris Glacier Hike & Packraft" tour begins with a scenic float plane flight with views of Taku Inlet, flowing glaciers and wildlife. Upon landing, guests will packraft to the glacier alongside glacial ice while admiring the surrounding mountainscapes. At Norris Glacier, guests will explore by foot looking for crevasses, glacier pools, moulins and other ice features.

Like all ABAK tours, this adventure is led by experienced guides who make the tour friendly for all experience levels by providing knowledgeable insights about the area and assisting guests with everything from getting outfitted in packrafts to introducing paddling techniques to gearing up with microspikes.

“Packrafting is one of the fastest-growing sports in Alaska, and we know that this activity will be one of the top highlights on the tour,” said Liz Barlow, ABAK director of operations. “ABAK has always provided exceptional experiences for our guests, and as part of the Alaska Seaplanes family we can now do so in new locations.”

The "Fly-In Norris Glacier Hike & Packraft" tour is available for booking now for tours running June through August. To learn more about this and other ABAK tours, visit www.beyondak.com.
