New Live Jazz Venue Planned for Sky, Enchanted Princess

Princess Cruises is rolling out a new live jazz venue on its newest cruise ships, the Sky Princess (launching October 2019) and the Enchanted Princess (launching June 2020). Called Take 5, the new venue will celebrate the sounds, culture and history of jazz, serving cocktails by Princess partner and Master Mixologist Rob Floyd

Take 5 will offer experiences honoring the roots of jazz, the birth of bebop, contemporary jazz and iconic female jazz artists, while also highlighting how destinations shaped this musical genre. The space will host live performances by dedicated jazz musicians, dance lessons, speakers and workshops, guest performers and after-hours parties. Guests will also be able to enjoy surprise, pop-up performances. Custom media content will play on screens during the events, including archival footage.

Highlights of the venue’s afternoon enrichment and themed nights include “A Night in Harlem,” celebrating the famous neighborhood during the 1920s, as well as “the Birth of Big Band and BeBop,” showcasing post-war jazz and the birth of the bebop genre. “The Way You Look Tonight” celebrates the women of jazz, while “Toda La Noche – Fiery Afro-Cuban Jazz” is a journey through the Caribbean, with songs from artists such as Tito Puente, Irakere and Dizzy Gillespie. “A Sophisticated Evening of Cool” will show off the sounds of the 1950s, while “Contemporary Directions – A Festival of Jazz” will honor the jazz music of recent decades, hosting local artists from the destinations to which the ships will sail.
