Scenic and National Geographic Introduce Three New Itineraries

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours and National Geographic Expeditions have announced three new travel packages for the 2019 season. These trips will take passengers to Christmas markets along the Danube, to the gardens of the Netherlands and Belgium and along the historic Douro in Portugal.

The Gems of the Danube Christmas Markets will leave from Nuremburg on December 9, 2019 for an eight-day cruise to Budapest. Passengers will stop in Vienna, where the city holds the market in front of its town hall, or ‘rathaus.’ Guests will also stop in the Nuremberg Christmas market, which has run since 1629 and has a history of quality toy craftsmanship.

Another new itinerary is the Dutch Sights & Belgium Delights eight-day cruise. Sailing round trip from Amsterdam, the cruise has two departure dates on April 17 and 24, 2019. Stops will include: the Keukenhof gardens, home to 7 million blooms; Delft, a village known for its blue and white pottery; and the fishing village of Volendam.

Unforgettable Douro is the third new trip, offering an 11-day cruise through the World Heritage-designated region. Along the way, guests will see medieval villages like Portugal’s first capital Guimarães and Provesende. Travelers will meet local fisherman, sample fresh sardines, try port wines of the Quinta da Roêda estate, ride a canoe on the Sabor River and attend a private concert. The departure dates are May 25 and September 23, 2019.

Each cruise is accompanied by a National Geographic expert who will lead presentations, informal discussions and additional excursions. A photographer from National Geographic will also be aboard the ship, ready to help guests with their photography skills.
