Carolyn Turnbull Is New Managing Director of Tourism Western Australia

Tourism Western Australia has announced the appointment of Carolyn Turnbull as the new managing director, stating that it’s an important step in continuing the agency’s relationship with Tourism Australia. Turnbull brings over 20 years of international leadership experience in the tourism and hospitality industry, joining Tourism Western Australia in 2020 as the executive director, industry, aviation and markets. She begins her new role on Monday, October 18.

“With extensive experience internationally in the tourism and hospitality industry, Carolyn will provide great leadership, particularly as we look to reignite our pre-COVID momentum and welcome the return of visitation,” Tourism Western Australia Chair Di Bain said of Turnbull’s appointment in a press statenebt.

Turnbull will take the helm of Tourism Western Australia from Derryn Belford, who has acted in the role since late 2020 and been with the department 13 years in total.

“I am delighted to be heading up Tourism Western Australia as we continue to work with industry to elevate the state as a leading destination of choice when we are ready to welcome our domestic and international markets back to [Western Australia],” Turnbull said in a press release.

“I recognize there are many challenges ahead, and I am proud to be entrusted to lead [Tourism Western Australia] over this important phase of recovery, as we accelerate progress towards a new era for our tourism sector. I acknowledge the wonderful groundwork and the milestones that have been achieved through Derryn Belford’s leadership of the agency over the last 12 months.”

Western Australia is a large and diverse state, with plenty of experiences, such as visiting the Kimberley in the North West, one of the true last wilderness areas on earth; swimming with the biggest fish in the sea, the whale shark at Ningaloo Reef in the Coral Coast; or sampling Chardonnay in the Margaret River wine region.
