The Cool Pool of the Week: Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa in Costa Rica

Millennials staying at Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa in Costa Rica need to check out the hotel’s swimming pool filled with thermal spring water and naturally heated by the magma found inside the nearby Arenal Volcano.

In addition to Tabacon’s roughly 20 in-river thermal springs and waterfalls, the main pool offers a tropical backdrop with views of the volcano. The pool also features a swim-up bar that sits under a giant palapa where guests can hear and spot local wildlife roaming the property grounds.

The Arenal Pool Bar offers a wide range of standard cocktails and small bites, including mixed seafood ceviche, Mexican chorizo with chimichurri and fruit smoothies.

The pool is filled with natural spring water from the hot springs where temperatures range from 77 to 105 degrees, so it's not artificially heated. The pool also offers a waterslide and views of the Arenal Volcano that can be spotted on clear, sunny days. There is also an open-air restaurant overlooking the pool area where guests can enjoy lunch or dinner to the sounds of local wildlife.

The luxury resort features 103 eco-friendly guest rooms and suites, two international restaurants and one lounge, a spa with open-air bungalows where treatments are rendered to the sounds of local wildlife, and the Shangri-La Gardens, which are available for adults only and feature six natural pools, private cocoon-shaped cabanas and a full bar.

The property also offers easy access to destination attractions such as zip lining, horseback riding and whitewater rafting. The property just joined Virtuoso and completed a 1.5 hour walking trail on-site, where a naturalist will soon be leading guided tours.
