Velas Resorts Offers "Buddymoon" Experiences for Couples and Friends

The “buddymoon” is coming to prominence—a honeymoon with friends and loved ones together.

According to a 2017 Priceline survey, 12 percent of couples would consider taking a buddymoon. Hopping on the trend, Velas Resorts is offering buddymoon packages for couples hosting their destination weddings at four of its properties: Grand Velas Riviera Maya, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Grand Velas Los Cabos, and Casa Velas.

At Grand Velas Riviera Maya a four-day offering includes a private welcome cocktail party at the resort’s Zen Pool, its Chaká or Sen Lin restaurant terraces. Additional private experiences include a meditation or cooking class, picnic, or eco- tour—complete with a Chaman friendship ceremony and a golf or spa day, which includes Velas Resorts’ signature 80-minute spa water ceremony experience.

At Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, the buddymoon experience starts immediately. After sipping on a welcome cocktail, guests will head down to their rooms, where they will forfeit their devices for board games and books, which the company says will augment the bond between friends. The couple and their guests can relax with an aromatherapy class and meditation in the resorts’ gazebo gardens after the wedding. Later, they can unwind near a private bonfire on the beach with a live violinist.

The next day, the couple and their guests will ride on a 58-foot luxury yacht, equipped with its own living room, kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms, and stocked with sparkling wine and snacks, to Casa Velas, where guests will put down the cellphone for a painting class and a sunset cruise Rhythms of the Night by Vallarta Adventures. The buddymoon concludes with a private brunch and botanical cocktail class. In it, a mixologist will teach guests how to create their own signature cocktails using their choice of fresh herbs.

Finally, at Grand Velas Los Cabos, the private buddymoon experience includes champagne and raw bar items, a private chocolate clam clambake, and a fishing excursion with a chef to catch, prepare, and enjoy fresh ceviche. Spa experiences include the water ceremony, Aromatherapy Workshop, Tequila Cream Massages and yoga on the beach.

In other Velas Resorts news, the company is launching several new activities for teens. The include a Graffiti Workshop, Teen Movie Night, Tortilla Making, Pickleball and Training Camp.
