Second Strike to Disrupt Flights in France Through Friday

Two strikes in France are set to disrupt air travel. According to Air France, a national strike is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, and as a result French Civil Aviation Authorities have instructed all airlines to decrease their flight schedules to and from French airports.

Air France says that it plans to operate all of its long-haul flights on March 22, as well as 75 percent of its medium-haul flights through Paris – Charles de Gaulle and 60 percent of its short-haul flights through Paris-Orly and the French provinces. Travelers should still expect last-minute delays and cancellations, the airline noted.

As previously reported, a strike is also scheduled for Friday, March 23, by several Air France staff unions. According to the airline’s latest update, that day Air France expected to operate 75 percent of its flight schedule, including 70 percent of its long-haul flights; 70 percent of its medium-haul flights through Paris – Charles de Gaulle; and 80 percent of its short-haul flights through Paris – Orly and the French provinces. Last-minute delays and cancellations may still occur on this day as well.

Air France says that it will offer rebooking options at no extra cost. Travelers scheduled to flight on Air France or Joon March 23 or 24 can rebook for travel March 25 through 28. Travelers can also postpone their flight until after March 28, change their country of origin or cancel their trip, in which case they will get a voucher that will be valid for one year that can be used on Air France, KLM or Hop! flights.

Other airlines have issued travel waivers in response to the strikes as well.

American Airlines is allowing customers scheduled to fly through Paris – Charles de Gaulle March 22 to rebook through March 27 between the same city pair in the same cabin (or pay the difference).

On Delta, customers scheduled to fly March 22 -24 can rebook March 25 – 28, with the new ticket to be reissued on or before March 28.
