On June 6, Southwest Airlines resumed its nonstop flight routes to Costa Rica, completing the re-establishment of all U.S. airlines that served nonstop flight service to Costa Rica before the pandemic. Direct flight routes to Costa Rica are now available from more than 20 cities across the world.
While several U.S. airlines launched new routes to Costa Rica, others started new services entirely. Beginning next month through August, Frontier Airlines will introduce its service to Costa Rica with two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays from Miami, and two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays from Orlando. In September, Frontier will increase service from these cities to five weekly flights.
The latest on the nine U.S. airlines offering direct connections between the U.S. and Costa Rica:
- Alaska Airlines: Resumed Costa Rica flights on November 20, 2020, to/from Los Angeles.
- American Airlines: Resumed Costa Rica flights on September 9, 2020, to/from Miami and Dallas; on December 18 to/from Charlotte. It will launch a new Costa Rica route to/from Austin beginning November 2, 2021
- Delta Air Lines: Resumed Costa Rica flights on November 2, 2020, to/from Atlanta, and on December 17 to/from Los Angeles.
- Frontier Airlines: Will launch new Costa Rica flights to/from Miami and Orlando in July 2021.
- JetBlue: Resumed Costa Rica flights on November 1, 2020, to/from Fort Lauderdale; on November 4 to/from Orlando; and on November 20 to/from New York. The airline also inaugurated a Los Angeles route in December.
- Southwest Airlines: Resumed Costa Rica flights on June 6, 2021, to/from Houston; on June 12, 2021, to/from Baltimore.
- Spirit Airlines: Will launch new Costa Rica flights to/from Miami in November 2021.
- United Airlines: Offered repatriation flights throughout the pandemic and operates Costa Rica flights to/from Houston, New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. It also launched new routes to/from Los Angeles and Denver in December 2020.
Note: Sun Country Airlines offered seasonal service to/from Dallas from June to August 2020 but does not have any flights to or from Costa Rica scheduled.
Costa Rica’s international airports, Juan Santamaría International Airport and Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, reopened to all international tourists on November 1, 2020. Both airports offer on-site antigen and RT-PCR testing for outgoing travelers for $65 and $99, respectively. Walk-ins are accepted, but it is recommended that travelers book an appointment at covid.morphotr.com.
