Colombia Accepted Into World Travel and Tourism Council

Colombia recently announced it has joined the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) as a Destination Partner. Through this partnership, ProColombia, the government entity in charge of promoting international tourism, will work closely with WTTC to remove travel barriers, restore tourist confidence and provide a safe travel experience. It will also have the opportunity to get involved in the development of joint projects, share best practices and receive information and data made by the international organization.

In addition to the recent partnership, WTTC has been a great ally for the country since 2020, according to ProColombia, endorsing its “Check-in certified, COVID-19 bioseguro” seal from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism. Currently, 300 Colombian companies have earned the biosecurity seal.

“Having been accepted as a Destination Partner is very important news that further drives our management as an entity that promotes tourism internationally. We are grateful that the WTTC has placed its trust in our work and we are ready to contribute to the projects and initiatives that this important organization will undertake in 2021 focusing on the recovery of tourism,” said Flavia Santoro, president of ProColombia, in an announcement.

WTTC has also granted Colombia with its “Safe Travels” seal, making it one of the seven countries to have such a recognition in South America along with Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Brazil.

Further, the country will have direct access to the 200 companies that represent 30 percent of what the tourism industry generates worldwide. Having this access to the private sector network, ProColumbia said, will allow it to leverage commercial opportunities to attract international tourists and foreign investment projects in tourism.
