Grand Velas Los Cabos Receives Blue Flag Beach Distinction

Grand Velas Los Cabos in Mexico has received the Blue Flag distinction for the 2022-2023 season. The resort was evaluated by Blue Flag, an environmental management non-profit program, against a series of environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria.

Grand Velas Los Cabos employs various methods to keep its beach clean, including manual cleaning, sand screening through sieves made from recycled material and a sandbox tractor. The resort also follows the protocols for sea turtle nesting in accordance with the Department of Ecology and Environment.

In line with the Blue Flag and other sustainability initiatives, the resort is set to integrate short environmental education workshops for children into its activity program. Topics covered will range from the marine mammals of Baja California Sur and recycling to the conservation of marine life and care of the ocean.

Grand Velas Los Cabos follows various methods to benefit the planet and community. The resort employs waste separation onsite; recycles burned cooking oils with a supplier for conversion to biodegradable fuel; supports local recycling programs in charge of processing glass, plastic, metal, cardboard and toxic material; provides organic waste to local farms; composts to create a natural fertilizer for onsite gardens; and has several programs for reducing plastic for both guests and employees.

Grand Velas Los Cabos also operates self-sufficient reverse osmosis desalination plants, preheats all water with solar panels, minimizes water utilized in the entire washing process with an onsite water treatment plant, reduces pollutant emissions and minimizes energy consumption with air-conditioning equipment.
